Children & Adolescents
Counseling for Children (ages 5-12)
Adolescents (ages 13-16)
Emerging Adults (ages 17-22)

At Matters of the Heart, we are deeply committed to the emotional and mental well-being of the children and teens we serve. Our counselors focus on providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing space where young clients can express themselves, develop coping skills, and work through the challenges they face.

Our counselors prioritize advocacy for the child’s best interests and mental well-being. We do not allow the counseling process to be weaponized in custodial disputes or used to justify co-parenting grievances, as this can air on the side of emotionally abusive or negligent behavior on behalf of the parent. While this commitment may sometimes challenge parenting strategies or behaviors and require parents to attend counseling with their child together at times, our ultimate goal is to promote the healthy development and well-being of the children in our care. In this we strive to remain open to both parental positions, knowing that each parent involved in coparenting disputes have their own narrative, and we work with both parents to better understand the way the child’s entire system (all familial parties) are impacting their mental health.
If you have questions about whether we are the best fit for working with your child and family, here is a brief bit of information about what services we do not provide:
